WHY SHOULD I TEST MY PROPERTY 

If you are a landlord you have a responsibility to provide a healthy living environment in your rental property, if you are buying a property for your family you will want to know if you are putting your and your family at a health risk not to mention the financial cost for remediation.

DOES LIVING IN A CONTAMINATED HOUSE CAUSE HEALTH PROBLEMS

Some health issues associated with living in meth contaminated homes. Include respiratory issues, headaches, dizziness, nausea and skin problems. Often it is these unexplained issues that lead people to suspect their property may be contaminated. Children are the most at risk of health issues from meth contaminated properties.

WHAT HAPPENS IF THE TEST IS POSITIVE 

A qualified remediation company should be employed by the owner to make a restoration action plan ( RAP) . 

​An independent testing firm should then be employed to carry out verification testing to provide the owner with lab results showing all areas tested are below the Australian standard

DOES INSURANCE COVER THE CLEAR UP 

Some insurance companies will cover meth contamination cleanup but be careful some will advertise they insure the clean up after meth but this will only be for a confirmed meth lab. Make sure your insurance covers you for clean up of a lab and smokers.

WHAT ARE THE AUSTRALIAN GUIDELINES FOR CONTAMINATION 

Australian guidelines advise any meth reading over .5µg/100cm2 requires remediation anything under this reading does not require any further works.

WHAT SIZE AREA DO I NEED TO TEST 

Minimum of 5 samples including all areas children under 16 sleep

Under the voluntary code of practice it is recommended 1 x sample per room plus 1 sample per 10m2 floor area.

eg. 20m2 room would require 2 samples.
